SATE '11 Orlando panel: The Puzzle of Live Production
“Music is the vernacular of the human soul.”
This simple belief has informed and inspired Jon as a writer, arranger and producer of music and audio content for over 20 years. Connecting people through music has been the goal of Jon Baker Productions whether producing for live entertainment, theme park shows or records.
Jon earned a BS in Music Education from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh PA and taught General Classroom Music briefly before joining the “cast” at Disneyland as a bassist in the Kids of the Kingdom, and various park pop bands.
His concurrent work as a studio musician and engineer eventually led to opening his own multi track recording studio “The Bakery” in North Hollywood managing a staff of 10 with annual sales of over $1.5 million. Jon eventually left the studio business and has since worked as an independent music director, composer and audio producer for a variety of musical projects including touring stage shows: Bear in the Big Blue House Live, My Little Pony Live, Dragon Tales Live, and Sesame St. Live.
Jon has also helped connect people through music in theme park and “spectacular” productions. Disney, Universal and SeaWorld Entertainment have all called upon Jon to produce content for their parks, and his writing and producing has now extended to 6 continents including the soundtracks for the World Figure Skating Closing Ceremonies as well as the BASF Kid’s Lab at the 2010 Shanghai Expo.
Jon has also been on the cutting edge of technology as was the case when in 1994, he and his songwriting partner wrote and produced the music for what was then the new “digital classroom”. Their songs became the heart of the best selling educational CD rom of all time: Jumpstart Preschool.
