SATE '11 Orlando panel: The Puzzle of Live Production
Dw Phineas Perkins has been involved in live entertainment since the age of eight; his running shows was easier than finding a babysitter while his parents were acting and directing in community theatre. While earning his B.S. in Radio/Television at Butler University, Dw remained active in theatre, designing lighting, sound and effects as well as running shows professionally for the Santa Fe Opera, Indiana Repertory Theatre and Kings Island theme park. While earning his MFA at the Yale School of Drama, Dw also oversaw undergraduate students’ productions, production managed an Off-Off-Broadway production and designed lighting and sound for various productions.
For more than twenty years, Dw has been working in the entertainment industry, while based in Central Florida. Recent assignments found him managing the technical systems contract for WaterWorld in Singapore, various ride/show contracts with Birket Engineering, parade refurbishments for the MAGIC KINGDOM and living in Hong Kong to support the DISNEYLAND grand opening. Previously Dw spent fifteen years as a Disney Cast Member in varied roles from design specialist/manager for theme park shows and marketing special events and Super Bowl Halftime spectaculars, theater consultant for new venues and project manager for ride enhancements. Dw was also the producer for Disney’s FANTASMIC! and Disney’s Doug Live! in Florida. Dw is currently is working on new themed attractions in the Central Florida market.
